We
have been purchasing coffee from the Selva Negra farm for
five years. Mausi Kuhl is dedicated to implementing and maintaining
socially beneficial programs on her farm.
In 2001, working cooperatively with Mausi,
we rebuilt bathrooms and showers in worker housing, installed
new roofs on most of the exsisting houses, and built a central
washing area complete with awning and concrete flooring. A
total of $12,500 was spent on these projects.
In 2002, we spent $31,459.28 on various programs, including
construction of a new six room school and additional housing
for workers, and upgrading chimneys and kitchens in the permanant
workers houses. In addition, the medical clinic was maintained,
school supplies provided, and meal/nutrition programs supported.
Plans
for 2003 are to extend 16 of the permenant workers houses,
so that each will include a shower and a bathroom. This will
also allow extra area so the whole family doesn't have to
sleep in the same room. We will also fix the exsisting showers
and bathrooms.
